Armstrong's Stolen Bike Returned

At a press conference held at the PSC on Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento Police confirmed that cyclist Lance Armstrong's bicycle, stolen on Sunday, February 15, has been returned by an anonymous citizen as of 10:30 this morning.

The bike, which was identified by serial number, was described by the spokesman as being '"in good condition," despite being delivered with the wheels detached from the frame. Police do not believe that the bicycles were specifically targeted by thieves. A police spokesman said, "Our one concern was that the bike would be discarded," once the thieves realized the identity of the bike's owner.

Police declined to comment on the identity of the citizen who returned the bicycle, saying that the while the "Good Samaritan" who returned the bike did provide details, the police department would not be discussing the particulars of the case due to the ongoing investigation. It was confirmed that the citizen who returned the bicycle is not a suspect.

Police are still searching for two additional bicycles from Team Astana, which were stolen along with Armstrong's. Initial reports that three additional bikes were stolen proved to be incorrect, as one of Team Astana's missing bikes was discovered to have been misplaced & had been sitting in hotel storage.

Police allowed that they did have multiple suspects, but refused to go into further detail, again citing the ongoing investigation. A police spokesman described the department's attitude as hopeful, saying "We are actively following leads," but cautioned against early speculation.

Sacramento Police were flooded with calls from media outlets and cycling enthusiasts from all around the world, and officers patrolling downtown were stopped and advised by concerned citizens actively looking for the stolen bike.

That the high-profile theft took place in downtown Sacramento was described as an 'unfortunate circumstance' by police.

Armstrong is expected to receive his bicycle in 24 to 48 hours, although at the press conference police stated that they had not been in direct contact with Armstrong's Team Astana.

Lance Armstrong's $10,000 bike stolen in Sacramento; three teammates lose theirs

How's this for boosting Sacramento's world image?

Sacramento police are looking for leads in a high-profile caper: The case of Lance Armstrong's missing $10,000-plus time trial bike.

Early this morning, officials from Armstrong's Team Astana and Armstrong himself reported on their twitter.com feeds that the one-of-a-kind black and gold bike that he used Saturday in the Sacramento prologue & three other teammates' bikes were stolen from a team truck.

"Bad way to start the morning ... Bikes stolen from the truck last night," reads the Team Astana feed.

As the police began their investigation, the race rolled on. It started at noon in Davis, and was to end 108 miles later in Santa Rosa. The race has most of the greatest riders in the world, but Armstrong, a seven time Tour de France winner just returning from competitive cycling, is the rock star.

The bikes were stolen from an unmarked moving truck parked in the alley behind the Residence Inn at 1501 L St. between 10 p.m. Saturday and 6:45 a.m. Sunday when the theft was discovered, said officer Konrad Von Schoech, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department.

No other vehicles break-ins were reported, said Von Schoech.

The case has been assigned to a detective & officers are in the process of collecting & reviewing surveillance footage from the Residence Inn and nearby businesses.

Von Schoech said it's possible the thief or thieves were not targeting Armstrong.

"We don't have any information that would indicate they specially went after his bike," he said.

Armstrong, who could not be reached prior to the race, posted a picture of the bike on his twitter feed writing: "There is only one like it in the world therefore hard to pawn it off."

The police were contacting local pawn shops just in case.

Von Schoech said it was "very unfortunate" to have something like this happen while the world is watching.

"This is not just a property crime ... these bikes are in the thousands and thousands of dollars," said Von Schoech. "This is definitely different: this is a high-profile victim, during a high-profile event, and a high value object." From SacBee

AMGEN Saturday Prologue

OMG! This was my first time attending the event and I had a blast!!
I parked my car near the batcave and rode in to downtown and the sea of faces, bodies and bikes.
I checked out the manufacturers booths and was surprised to see so many track frames on display. I tried not to slobber too much.

So, as Lance entered the starting block the entire downtown area erupts into cheers and screaming. When he blew by my observation point the crowd response was deafening.

The best part was running into the folks from SFG and meeting a couple of the MASH guys. I also ran into other FG riders and told them about the SFG web site.
Next year, SFG booth selling all kinds of SFG schwag.

Updated pics of bikes

Well, here's some updated pics of the bikes. Steel fork on the EighthInch ditched for $15 carbon fork off eBay. Now, I'm not a weight weenie, but that fork was farkin' heavy!

Put drops on the FTP and did my 1st wrap job w/ track grips on the bottom end. I thought I had done a good job on the wrap until I looked at other bikes. Total fail on wrap/grip idea!

Still need to get new pedals and retention for the FTP, get my lungs and legs in better shape for Hellyer.

Coming soon to my mailbox...

Big ups to everyone from SFG.
The people that make up this uniquley strange but very friendly group of FG bike riders are willing to assist, give advice, make fun of and have a great time hanging out.

So, I thought I would represent and have a hoodie made...here's a teaser.

598,000 workers lose their jobs in January

The number of cuts by employers is the biggest for any single month since 1974, according to the Labor Department. The unemployment rate climbs to 7.6%.
Reporting from Washington and New York -- Spooked by the deteriorating economy, businesses are continuing to shed jobs at an alarming pace, pushing the unemployment rate to 7.6%, its highest level in 16 years.

The government Friday gave its latest damage report: 598,000 jobs lost in January, the biggest for any single month since 1974.

In times like these, I am very thankful for my job. A job that I like doing and get self-satisfaction from. To all the folks who have lost their jobs...I hope you can find another as soon as possible.
